Sustainable Design of VT incorporates efficient architectural design along with sustainable systems and elements into new homes, renovations, and additions. Integration of renewable energy, recycled building materials, and ecological landscapes are our specialties. We also design outdoor rooms for entertaining, relaxing, dining, and cooking. Whether integrated into a patio, deck, or covered porch, an outdoor room is an economical way to expand the living space without increasing energy requirements. For existing homes, we offer walk-through energy assessments. This is a broad initial process of identifying a home’s obvious existing energy deficiencies, savings opportunities, and overall potential for efficiency improvements. For example, we look at systems that can complement one another, such as geothermal and solar hot water systems.

For Design Professionals
Blending of indoor and outdoor environments is our goal. We can help architects in the design phase to incorporate sustainable elements and systems. We can integrate an architect’s structure into the environment by considering graceful outdoor elements and other landscaping options. We can produce scale models of a project for use during design development meetings with the client and contractor, as well as 3D computer models, renderings, and photo compositions.

For Builders
Astonishingly, the majority of houses being built today do not meet the Vermont Residential Building Energy Code. We can show builders how to be code-compliant, advise on fossil-fuel alternatives, and assist in the implementation of new energy-efficient technologies. We help builders locate “green” building products and recycled materials. Having actively participated in the construction process on several projects, we are proud of being a hands-on company.
